The Business Treadmill is the soul-crushing cycle of constant, frantic activity that generates temporary income but zero lasting stability. It looks like this: you spend all your time, energy, and money recruiting a new customer or affiliate (a one-off sale), only to have that customer quit or cancel a month or two later. To maintain your income, you have to immediately jump back into the recruitment cycle, trying to replace the lost sales just to stay even.
